The Classes We Offer
We offer general music classes and instrumental classes to Year 1 to Year 8 students. We cannot teach pre-schoolers or secondary school students. Our classes begin in the first term and continue until December. We do not have any classes starting at the beginnings of terms two, three, or four.
We place age limits on some general music classes and on all instrumental classes. The age limits make sure the children are old enough to work together with other children, and to work with the teacher.
The size of the child is also very important. If a child is very small, even though they are the minimum age, we may still say they must wait a year or two until the child is physically big enough to cope with the instrument.
A student cannot begin learning a second instrument at Raroa until he or she has learned the first instrument for at least a year. We have this rule to make sure that the child can commit to practising regularly.
We encourage students to take a general music class, such as musical skills, choir or orchestra, and learn an instrument as well.

Musical Skills |
5 – 7 years |
Musical games and singing to teach your children about rhythm, pulse, pitch, dynamics, tempo and timbre. The students play hand instruments, develop songs and stories together and learn about orchestral instruments. This class is a good basis for learning a musical instrument and is heaps of fun! |

Choir |
8 – 12 years |
Everybody welcome. Your child will learn songs with accompaniment, and have the opportunity to perform them. Basic theory including reading music is also taught. |

Orchestra |
7 years + |
Everybody who has learned an instrument for at least one year is welcome. |

Music Theory |
9 years + |
You must have learned an instrument for at least two years. |

Composition |
10 years + |
You must have learned an instrument for at least three years. |
